The Division of Water Resources (Division) received your sludge survey information on
February 8, 2021. With the survey results, you requested an extension of the sludge survey
requirement for the two lagoons at the James Thomas Farm facility. Due to the amount of
treatment volume available, and the rate of sludge accumulation for the lagoon, the Division
agrees that a sludge survey is not needed until December 31, 2024 for Secondary (211d stage)
lagoon. However, due to the amount of treatment volume available, and the rate of sludge
accumulation, the Division feels that an extension is not appropriate for the Primary (1st
stage) lagoon at this facility.
The next sludge survey for Primary (1st stage) lagoon at James Thomas Farm should be
performed before December 31, 2021, and for the Secondary (211d stage) lagoon should be
performed before December 31, 2024. Please retain this letter and keep it with your farm records
for reference.
