After every runoff producing rainfall event, or at least monthly, whichever comes first:
1. Inspect the infiltration pond(s) for erosion, trash accumulation, grass coverage, and general
condition of the facility.
2. Repair eroded areas immediately, re -seed as necessary, keep side slopes and bottom mowed,
and remove trash.
3. Check any inlet piping, swales and catch basins. Repair broken piping, reseed swales, and
remove trash.
J _ 4. Inspect the bypass/overflow structure for blockage and deterioration. Remove blockage and
repair structure to originally approved design specifications.

Je 5. Check the depth of the pond(s) every six months. If siltation has occurred to the point that
only 75 % of the original design depth is provided, remove the excess silt to the original
depth. Do not over -excavate, as this may cause the required water table separation to be
reduced, and may affect the ability of the system to perform as designed.
6. If drawdown is not accomplished within 5 days, the filter media must be removed and
replaced to design specifications so that the required drawdown is accomplished.

Infiltration Basin Sizing
Basin area @ top of Bank Elev. of 10.2' = 3,456 SF
Basin area @ bottom Elev. of 9.5' = 2,972 SF
Average Basin Area = 3,214 SF
3,214 SF (Avg. Area) x 0.7' (Basin Depth) = 2,250 CF Basin Volume
Basin Volume of 2,250 LF is greater than 25 Year, 24 Hour storm runoff volume
of 1,821 CF and is therefore adequate.
Infiltration Rate
Basin must infiltrate all stored runoff within 5 days following a 25 year, 24 hour
storm.
Infiltration rate is 1.5 inches per minute.
Maximum intensity of 25 year, 24 hour storm is 8 inches/hour. The infiltration
rate exceeds the maximum intensity. Therefore, the basin will be dry under
these conditions.

Given the high soil permeability and great depth to the seasonal high water
table, the rise in water table during the storm event will not effect the basin
infiltration rate.

Dear Mr. Ito :
Soil Tech Engineering, Inc, has recently completed an evaluation of the
subsurface conditions for the development of the South Boardwalk Fishing Pier
and Pier House located at 103 Carolina Beach Avenue South in Carolina Beach,
North Carolina.
Our representative investigated the subsurface soils in the center of the
proposed stormwater infiltration area which we understand will be located
beneath the proposed building . The location of our tests was determined using
the provided site development sketch. Our representative ciassified the
subsurface soils encountered by depth to approximately six feet below the
existing ground surface. The attached tabulation outlines the various stratas
encountered at each location explored. We collected samples of each soil strata
encountered for laboratory analysis. Selected samples were tested in our
laboratory, for grain size analysis in accordance with the American Society for
Testing and Materials (ASTM) procedures entitled ASTM D-422; "Particle Size
Analysis of Sails"_

Our representative also conducted an on -site infiltration test to determine the
absorption or infiltration rate of the subsurface conditions. Our findings indicate
a rate of 1.5 inches per minute at the location tested at a depth of approximately
24 inches below the existing ground, surface. We did not encounter
groundwater to the depths explored. We anticipate that the season high
groundwater condition is below the depths explored.
A tabulation of our field and laboratory tests data and a sketch indicating the test
locations is attached. Please contact us if you have questions.

1. Inspect the basin after rainfall events. Restore eroded areas to original
grades and dimensions.
2. Check elevations of basin top and bottom annually. Fill any low areas
along basin top to original grade as shown on plans. Remove
accumulated sediment on basin bottom to original grade as shown on
plans.
3. Notify the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources at
(910)395-3900 if basin water level does not drawdown completely within
five days following a precipitation event.
