8 PROJECT SUMMARY The applicant is proposing to rebuild a fish house located over open
water destroyed by Hurricane Irene The proposed structure would be located on an existing pier
9 NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION
The Open Water Properties LLC project is located at 154 Davis Sound Lane on Core Sound
to Davis in Carteret County To reach the project site travel east of Hwy 70 into Davis At
the Hwy 70 and Community Road intersection, turn right (south) onto Community Road and
travel 0 25 miles Turn left (east) onto Davis Sound Road and 700' to the terminus of the
toad The project site will be on the right (south) side of Davis Sound Road
There project site is a 0 76 acre parcel with a single family home The shoreline is armored
with a bulkhead The average site elevation is +3 NHW The site includes an existing pier
that measures 105 in length and consists of four slips Hurricane Irene severely damaged the
pier and destroyed the fish house, which measured 15' x 20' The fish house would be
located approximately 35' waterward of NHW The pier has since been repaired to pre -
storm conditions The bottom composition adjacent the pier is fine sand The site exhibits
no coastal wetlands along 242' of shoreline
The Division of Water Quality classifies Core Sound as SA ORW This area is not a
Primary Nursery Area Core Sound is open to the harvesting of shellfish by the Division of
Shellfish Sanitation The upland parcel associated with this project is classified as
conservation within the 575' AEC to the Carteret County LUP
10 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The applicant is proposing to rebuild an enclosed traditional fish house which was destroyed
by Hurricane Irene The proposed structure would measure 15' x 20' and 10 in height The
fish house would be located on an existing platform measuring 25' x 25' The landward
portion of the structure would be located a distance of 35 waterward of NHW The
waterward extent of the structure would be 55' from NHW The structure would be utilized to
offload fishing equipment as well as commercial fish harvest
11 ANTICIPATED IMPACTS
The proposed fish house would be constructed on an existing pier All shading impacts are
existing No new impacts occur by the construction of this structure No impacts to SAVs
would occur as a result of this project The fish house would be rebuilt to the previous
dimensions and would serve the same use as previously used for
