RE: Discharge Monitoring Report DWR SECTION
To Whom It May Concern;
The Blue Ridge Southern Railroad (BLU) Canton Yard is covered under NPDES permit
NCG080958. As part of permit coverage, the BLU is required to collect stormwater samples for
pH, Total Suspended Solids, and Non-Polar Oil & Grease / TPH analysis on the standard
benchmark timeline. Due to a change in personnel at the facility and lack of qualifying stormwater
events,no samples were collected during the monitoring periods between July 2018 and December
2019.
BLU personnel have been provided additional training regarding stormwater sample collection
procedures to ensure that all future stormwater samples are collected on time and in accordance
with the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. To support this training, a third party consultant
was hired to assist with the first 2020 semi-annual onsite stormwater sample collection and
documentation training. Finally, a database system has been set up to remind facility personnel of
upcoming stormwater sampling events.
We believe that these actions will provide additional tools to ensure compliance with the permit
and guarantee a successful monitoring program.
