RE: Hookerton Boating Access Area, Greene County; DWQ #20120028
Biologists with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission ( NCWRC) have reviewed the subject
application for impacts to wildlife and fishery resources. Our comments are provided in accordance with
provisions of the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (48 Stat. 401, as amended; 16 U.S.C. 661 et. seq.)
and Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act (as amended).
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is requesting to construct a single lane, concrete boat
ramp and associated dock to provide public access to Contentnea Creek in Hookerton, Greene County.
An associated gravel parking lot is also proposed along with a fishing pier to be located downstream of
the proposed ramp. No wetland impacts are associated with this project, but there will be 1,728 sq. ft. of
Zone limpacts and 1,085 sq. ft. of Zone 2 impacts, neither of which require mitigation.
Anadromous fish are found in the Contentnea Creek and adjacent waterways. To prevent any unintended
impacts to the fish species from the construction of this project, the NCWRC recommends that all in-
water work avoid the anadromous fish moratorium which runs from February 15 thru September 30.
The NCWRC does not have any significant concerns with the project provided in -water work abides by
the above referenced moratorium. Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on this project.
Please feel free to contact me at (910) 796 -7427 if there are any questions or concerns.
