SIPHON DRAIN NOTES:
Operation of Drain
I To prime the drain operation, close valve #2 at bottom
of dam.
2. Open valve #1 at top of dam to evacuate air. Pour
water to into the intake tube as needed to fill pipes
with water.
3. Close valve #1.
4. Open valve #2 to begin flow of water through siphon.
Adjust valve to desired flow rate for lowering lake
level. Recommended flow rate is sufficient to lower
the water one foot (I') per day for drainage operations.
If constant low flow is desired then adjust valve for
desired rate to maintain pond level and to keep from
breaking the continuity of the water column.
General Notes
1. Valve boxes are shown as bottomless precast boxes.
Hand bricked boxes may be used as substitute.
2. Gate valves shall be AWWA approved.
3. Gate valves shall be left hand open (C.C.W.).
4. Gate valves shall have hand wheels for operation.
