SUBJECT North Carolina Department of Transportation ( NCDOT) SR1345 Beulah Church Road
Unnamed Tributary Wood Fork (Class C) Surry County
NCDOT proposes to grade drain base and pave SR1345 Biologists with the North Carolina Wildlife
Resources Commission are familiar with habitat values in the area These comments are provided in
accordance with the provisions of the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (48 Stat 401 as amended 16
U S C 661 667d) and the North Carolina Environmental Policy Act (G S 113A 1 through 113A 10
NCAC 25)
The project will widen the existing roadway Impacts to waters will occur when the existing 40 x 60
pipe at Station 13 +37 is replaced with a 60 x 60 culvert Our data review did not indicate trout or listed
species in the vicinity although the Bog turtle Glyptemys muhlenbergn (NCT FT S /A) is known not very
distant from the project
Based on our review of the submittal we will not object to the project as proposed providing that existing
or restorable aquatic life passage is provided by standard burial of the pipe s bottom into the streambed so
that thalweg conditions are maintained or restored Persons involved in the project should be
knowledgeable about the Bog turtle and know what to do in the event a Bog turtle is found
