9 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project site consists of a canal front lot located at 111 Burlington Street in the Town of Holden
Beach Brunswick County To find the project site from US Highway 17 in Shallotte travel south on
Holden Beach Road (NC 130) Travel approximately 7 5 miles and follow NC 130 to the right and
continue south approximately 10 mile to the base of the Holden Beach Bridge Turn Left onto Ocean
Boulevard W and travel approximately 15 miles to Burlington Street Turn right onto Burlington Street
and travel approximately 0 4 miles The project site will be located on the left
The project site is a canal front lot that measures approximately 50 feet in width by approximately 90
feet in depth The elevation of the high ground area of the lots averages approximately 2 5 feet above
normal high water (NHW) High ground vegetation consists primarily of lawn grasses and transitions to
marsh adjacent to the shoreline The shoreline of the property is unstabilized irregular and recessed
where erosion is occurring from stormwater runoff from Burlington Street Erosion feet along the NHW
has been observed and is evident from the elevation change of approximately Y
boundary These areas are irregularly vegetated with wetlands and inundated with debris from flood
tides Coastal wetlands have volunteered in the areas where stormwater run off has created changes
to elevation erosion and natural drainage paths A fringe of coastal wetlands including Spike Grass
(D►st►chhs sp►cata) and Salt Meadow Hay (Spart►na patens) intermixed with Sea Ox eye (Borr►ch►a Sea
frutescens) are present landward of NHW Smooth (Spartina

10 ANTICIPATED IMPACTS
The proposed new bulkhead construction with associated backfill and tie back /anchor system would
result in the incorporation of approximately 362 square feet of coastal wetlands and estuarine waters
The proposed bulkhead construction would result in the disturbance of approximately 2 000 square
feet of high ground The bulkhead backfill would also result in the filling of approximately 300 square
feet of coastal wetlands primarily Smooth Cord Grass (Spartina alterniflora) Estuarine Waters and
Public Trust Area Minor increases in turbidity should be expected during construction
