On the dates November 11 " and November 12" the City of Mount Holly WWTP had experienced a significant amount of rainfall in a
short amount of time. Because of this rainfall the effluent dissolved oxygen dropped below the permitted minimum value of 5.0 mg/1.
The dissolved oxygen was recorded as 4.6 mg/l and 0.08 mg/1.
The operators did everything possible to get the dissolved oxygen up while handling the amount of water coming into the plant. The
operators had to reduce the amount of aerators running in the plant to reduce the amount of solids flowing to the clarifiers, because of
the amount of flow coming into the plant. The plant had a max effluent flow of 7.1 mgd and 5.3 mgd for those days that caused the
low dissolved oxygen. The total rainfall for the days that caused the significant amount of flow was about 3.1 inches. When the
amount of water started to recede the operators were able to get everything running back to normal fairly quickly. The following days
the dissolved oxygen in the plant returned back to normal thanks to how quickly the operators were able to get aerators back on and
we were able to get the water through the system.
Called the regional office on the 12`", to notify someone immediately of the low dissolved oxygen. Wes directed me to include it into
the notes of the DMR.
