Below is a summary of the steps we have taken in response to the complaints we have
received from a few of the residents in CWE.
• On January 12' Aqua's Director of Operations inspected the wastewater treatment
plant and found no evidence of anaerobic conditions.
• Aqua installed three H2S odor loggers on Tuesday, January 12t". They were removed on
January 19' and the results showed low to no levels of Hydrogen sulfide.
• Aqua has contracted with an outside Engineering firm to run an independent survey of
odor capturing both H2S and Ammonia from manholes, lift stations and the
WWTP. Those sensors were installed January 19' and will be removed Thursday,
January 28t". Once the data has been retrieved, Aqua will share that with DWR.
• Aqua has lowered the influent lines that enter the two EQ basins to discharge below the
water level in order to minimize any potential volatilization of gases from the influent.
• Once the survey mentioned in bullet point three is complete, Aqua is prepared to install
a spray fogger with masking agent. We will make a decision on that once the results
have been evaluated.
With respect to odors inside the home, these are addressed by the plumbing code for which
Aqua has no control. A properly functioning plumbing vent system in the home will not allow
sewer gases to enter the home. It is not appropriate for Aqua to provide plumbing inspection
or repairs to a customer home, and is not licensed to do so.
