REQUEST FOR MORE INFORMATION
Dear Mr Price
On October 20 2011 the Division of Water Quality (DWQ)received your CAMA application to
construct a pnvate docking facility into Hewletts Creek The proposed pro�ect is located withm
an area that has been designated by the Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF)as a Primary
Nursery Area(PNA) and has very little depth at mean low water
The DMF is currently ob�ecting to the application proposal due to msufficient depths at low tide
m the pro�ect area After reviewing the CAMA application and comments provided from the
DMF the DWQ has determined that the pro�ect as proposed would have the potential to cause a
sigmficant adverse impact to the surroundmg PNA and would violate Tidal Salt Water Quality
Standards for Class SA Waters (15A NCAC 02B 0221 (2)), Conditions Related to Best
Usage waters shall meet the current sanitary and bacteriological standards as adopted by the
Commission for Health Services and shall be suitable for shellf sh culture Any source of water
pollution which precludes any of these uses includmg their functiomng as PNAs on either a
short term or long term basis shall be considered to be violatmg a water quality standard
Therefore unless modifications of the proposal are made to alleviate the concerns of the DWQ
and the DMF we will recommend moving towards demal of your application as required by 15A
NCAC 2H 0506 and will place this pro�ect on hold as incomplete until we receive this additional
mformation Please revise the proposal to alleviate the concerns mentioned by the NCDMF(see
attached letter)
