MEMORANDUM FOR: MR. RAYMOND PIPAK, UNITED STATES COAST GUARD,
1240 EAST NINTH STREET, ROOM 2179, CLEVELAND, OHIO, 44199.
SUBJECT: Action ID SAW-2011-01747, United States Coast Guard (USCG) application for
Department of the Army (DA) authorization to conduct maintenance dredging within Walter
Slough and the USCG Oregon Inlet Station mooring basin, northwest of Oregon Inlet, in Dare
County, North Carolina.
1. We are in receipt of your preconstruction notification application (PCN) requesting DA
authorization of the subject dredging work.
2. Review of the PCN revealed that your project as proposed does not qualify for authorization
under the nationwide permit program. Accordingly, should you wish to pursue a permit to
construct this project, you may seek authorization under a DA individual permit.
3. The Wilmington District's Planning and Environmental Branch is assisting you with this
project and they have provided information necessary for the Regulatory Division to begin
processing of your individual permit application. Accordingly, a public notice will be issued
today commencing the permit evaluation process.
