The APE is centered on existing NC 58 and extends 200 feet from the centerline to the E and W and 200 feet from either end of the proposed 1800-foot project length to the N and S to encompass proposed construction activities. The Lenoir County architectural survey and related publication (rt. Rum uttle, et ai., ~nas~/A'ain and Fancy-Me HistoicArdvteeture of LerndrCounty and,Gns[w, Nord Carding, IGnston: City of pnston and l.endr County HiSNrim1 Association, 1998) reCOrded no properties of concern in the APE. Lenoir County curcent GIS mapping, aerial photography, and tax informat(on (viewed 11 May 2011) indicate developed parcels on both sides of NC 58 in the APE, including two residential buildings dating to the 1930s, a third dating to the 1950s, and acirca-1940 commercial building (much altered). As the project is state funded, GS 121-12(a) applies; in addition, its one Federal permit area is subject also to Section 106 review. None of the pre-1960 resources are listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and none are located in the permit area. The project as currently defined is contained within the existing right-of-way, and will not adversely impact any buildings or landscapes. Google Maps "Street View" (viewed 11 May 2011) confirmed this assessment. A finding of "no historic properties affected" will satisfy both GS 121-12(a) and Section 106 compliance requirements. Should the design, funding, or permit requirements of the project change, please notify NCDOT Historic Architecture as additional review may be necessary.
