Harrison, Jr. and we are applying for a permit to build a wall for the purpose of shoreline stabilization at our property on Lake Glenville (Thorpe Reservoir), in the Stonebridge development near Glenville and Cashiers, NC. This letter summarizes the primary information we understand that you require in order to provide this permit. Please contact me immediately if any information is incomplete or there are specific questions. Property Location: Physical address of private home is: 419 Stonebridge Way, Cullowhee, NC 28723. This property is located on the west side of Lake Glenville (Thorpe Reservoir) in Jackson County, near Glenville township and approximately 5 miles north of Cashiers, NC. It is part of a very small development called Stonebridge. Access is through a development gate called Summer Hill. Exhibit la enclosed marks the location on a map of the area (marked with an "A" on Google Maps). Exhibit lb and lc show more magnified maps of the area (marked with "As"), and Exhibit ld shows the close-up of the Stonebridte development property itself. We are Lot #8 in Stonebridge. The physical address will not show up in Google or Mapquest, so one has to insert Lloyd Hooper Road, Cullowhee, NC 28273 to find it on a map or GPS system. Project Description: Outlined on Exhibit pages 2a, 2b and 2c, are the project specifications. It is our intention is to build a wall with rock boulders, consistent with the boulders that were used for support the foundation of our home. The wall is anticipated to be in the range of 4-5 feet high and approximately 140 feet wide (the width of our property line on the lakefront---see Exhibit ld for layout of property site). Rip rap rock will be used underneath the boulders to provide stability to the wall itself. This will all be done using a backhoe at the lakefront point during the months of November and December of 2011, when the lake is close to its lowest pond level. Exhibit 2e includes pictures of the lakefront section of our property where the stabilization wall will be constructed. These pictures were taken on September 2, 2011, when the lake was at approximately 93% of full pond. As per Duke Power records, the lake will stay at 92-93% of full pond between now and the spring of 2012, which will allow for the construction of our wall. As you can see from the pictures, we are experiencing material erosion at lake level, which is requiring the wall for stabilization. The pictures show the height of the bank in the 4-5 feet range with the water below full pond. And finally, Exhibit 3 is a full survey topographical map of the property building site used for construction purposes. Consideration of Bioen ing eeriniz: We considered using bioengineering at our site, but concluded that most of the erosion was too severe and the traditional rip rap and boulder stack rock approach would provide for more permanent stabilization of this water front area. A fee of $240 is enclosed with this application. When approval has been granted, please send the permit to the following contact information below. Contact information: Donald L.
