PROJECT SUMMARY: The applicant proposes to riprap 208' of shoreline a maximum of 15' waterward of an existing deteriorating bulkhead. __ Tim Beacham Bio Report Page 2 Site Description The applicant currently owns land adjacent to Albemarle Sound off SR 1163 at Griggs Acres, Point Harbor, NC. A single family residence with detached garage currently exist on the property. The northern and southern boundaries are marked by residential lots. The western boundary is marked by 208 feet of failing bulkhead. The property is located on a small bluff dominated by loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) and lawn grasses. The Division of Archives and History has designated a large portion of the area, including this lot, as having archeological significance. The northern adjacent lot 15 feet waterward of normal stabilized at this point with to the slope of the shoreline. is presently bulkheaded. has existing riprap, an average of water level. This riprap has a historic movement waterward due The southern adjacent shoreline The applicant proposes to riprap 208' of shoreline on a 1.5 to 1 slope, a maximum of 15' waterward of normal water level. The applicant currently has been issued general permit #7095-A for riprap 5' waterward of normal water level. This work has not been initiated. The applicant feels that 15' waterward of normal water level is the minimum which will stabilize the shoreline without riprap movement, due to the height (8 feet above bottom) of the bulkheaded embankment. Anticipated Impacts The riprap will impact approximately 3,120 square feet of shallow water habitat. Some localized, short-term turbidity may result from the placement of riprap. CAMA Review The project is consistent with the rural classification in the Currituck County LUP. Submitted by: M. Todd Ball Date: July 19, 1990 t Please type or print.
