NOTICE OF A CITIZENS INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR THE PROPOSED
WIDENING OF NC 16 FROM NORTH OF TOWER ROAD TO CALEB SETZER
ROAD (SR 1800) SOUTHEAST OF NEWTON
TIP Project No. R-3100
Catawba County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold the
above Citizens Informational Workshop on Monday, June 6, 2011 between the
hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Newton Main Library
(located on the lower level), 115 West C Street, Newton.
Interested individuals may attend this informal workshop at their
convenience during the above stated hours. Department of Transportation
representatives will display maps and will be available to answer questions and
receive comments from the public. There will be no formal presentation.
The purpose of the project is to improve traffic service for motorists in the
project area. New NC 16, under TIP Project R-2206 CA, will be four lane divided
facility from south of Tower Road (SR 1895) to St. James Church Road (SR 1386)
is currently under construction. Since potion of NC 16 from Tower Road to (SR
1895) to Claremont Road (SR 1800) is two- lane facility, therefore it needs
widening to provide better level of service. This project will be an improved facility
that is also consistent with the federal and state goals of the National Highway
system (NHS), NC Intrastate System, and Strategic Highway Corridors (SHC)
Initiative.
