We were very concerned that they were wanting to expand the cultch sizes to 10 acres. The meeting was successful, they explained how they put out cultch and how they calculated area. They also told us they would like to have some areas to be ten acres, but they could not pin point the exact ones. They also stated that they would be limited to a 100 acre threshold for planting. The USACE and I agreed that they could have some 10 acre areas, but that the entire cultch planting sites would be limited to the 100 acres for the entire state. We all agreed that that would work for us and that it would also give DMF the flexibility they needed. They would also (again) be giving us the locations and acreage of the cultch plantings for 2011 when completed. We decided that we would NOT have to have another meeting unless their protocol changed or that they increased the total amount of acreage of cultch for the state. They also hope to get this going in the winter months so that we are not down to the wire as we have been these last two years.... they're learning. I would be willing to write the 401 for you, using your last years certification if you would like. I know they want this thing yesterday (just like last year). Joanne 1
