Creeks that have the potential to be impacted and control creeks will be monitored. Salinity and water level measurements are required to be frequently collected (approximately hourly), and water quality samples collected and analyzed twice per month. To accomplish this monitoring, a small pier needs to be constructed (or in a few cases a pier replaced) in 17 locations within 12 area creeks. Each pier will extend from higher ground to each creek channel in order to reach approximately two feet of water at normal water level. Therefore, each pier will be a different length. In no case will any pier exceed more than 25% of the width of the channel. All piers over marsh will be constructed such that the distance from the marsh substrate to the bottom of the decking will be a minimum of 36 inches. An automatic salinity and water level monitor will be mounted at the end of each pier. Twice per month the data from the monitor will be downloaded, and a grab water sample will be collected for analysis. All piers will be located on PCS Phosphate property, and are designed to be as narrow as possible (two feet wide) and still allow safe access.
