NOTICE OF A FOLLOW-UP CITIZENS INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR THE
PROPOSED SR 2755 (CARMON ROAD) ROADWAY AND RAIL IMPROVEMENTS
WITH THE NORTH CAROLINA RAILROAD/NORFOLK SOUTHERN RAILROAD
(NCRR/NS) IN MCLEANSVILLE
TIP Project No. P-5204
Guilford County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold the above
Citizens Informational Workshop on Thursday, March 31, 2011 between the hours of
5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the McLeansville Fire Department located at 5326
Friedens Church Road, McLeansville.
NCDOT representatives will be available in an informal setting to answer
questions and receive comments about a new alternative for the proposed project. A
new design alternative will be presented, and previous alternatives will be reviewed.
The opportunity to submit written comments or questions will be provided. Interested
citizens may attend at any time during the above mentioned hours. No formal
presentation will be made.
NCDOT initially held a workshop to propose replacing the existing rail crossing
of SR 2755 (Carmon Road) and the North Carolina Railroad/Norfolk Southern
(NCRR/NS) track with a nearby grade separated crossing or an extension of Carmon
Road westward generally paralleling the railroad tracks to Bethel Church Road and
McLeansville Road. A grade separation means using a bridge to separate
intersecting roads and/or railroads. This is part of an effort to reduce the number of
redundant and/or unsafe rail-highway at-grade crossings statewide.
The new alternative, available for your review at the upcoming workshop,
proposes to construct an extension of Carmon Road to the west on an alignment that
will connect it to Hines Andrews Road, will improve Hines Andrews Road, and tie into
Bethel Church Road at McLeansville Road. A grade separation with the railroad
would not be required in this alternative.
Anyone desiring additional information may contact Mr. Ryan White,
Environmental & Planning Branch, Rail Division at 1553 Mail Service Center,
Raleigh, NC 27699-1553, phone (919) 733-7245 x 266, or email rlwhite@ncdot.oov.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with
Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this workshop. Anyone
requiring special services should contact Mr. White as early as possible so that
arrangements can be made.
