When I say "fixing", I refer to the fact that these crossings were once underground and/or encased in concrete. Overtime, these crossings have become uncovered and some are actually aerial in nature. Attached are pictures of a candidate site. We are proposing to replace the clay pipe with ductile iron pipe. We will use transition couplings to connect back to the unexposed clay pipe and use restrained joint devices (megalugs, etc.) to secure any exposed joints. After this connection we will repair and armor the stream bank. During the conversation DWQ had with Joe Pearce (Durham County Utility Division Manager), one of the things brought up was the submission of a PCN. Ms. Lauren Witherspoon indicated we should submit this form to you. To that end, please find the attached PCN for the proposed stream crossing location. I admit, most of the PCN form does not apply to our project; but I wanted to make sure we had our bases covered. Also attached is a FEMA Firmette, which applies to our location. Let me know what else may be needed, or if you have further questions about the process. Thanks for your assistance in this matter. Ted Credle, P.E.
