Subject: RE: B-2988 -Bridge No. 13 on East Fork Pigeon River - Haywood County - Revised Causeways and Temporary Work Bridge Mark, I have reviewed your memorandum dated June 24, 2010 concerning TIP No. 2988, with revised plans and temporary impacts to the East Fork Pigeon River. Your submittal indicates that the impacts for the temporary causeway will be reduced from 0.11 acres to 0.07 acres and the temporary channel impacts will be reduced from 150 linear feet to 120 linear feet. This revision will also include a temporary work bridge across the East Fork Pigeon River. Based on this information, the Division of Water Quality has no objection to this proposal as long as all of the conditions of 401 Water Quality Certification No. 20091205, issued November 19, 2009 are met. If you have questions, please call me at 828-296-4500. No. B-2988 -Bridge No. 13 over East Fork Pigeon River Causeway and Temporary Work Bridge Revisions USACE Action ID No.: SAW-2009-2111 DWQ Project No.: 20091205 Maywood County Enclosed for your information are the subject causeway and work bridge revisions that I spoke with you about last week. Due to the low weight limit of the existing truss bridge. the contractor cannot take heavy equipment across the bridge to access the other side of the river. Plans were submitted to NCDOT to reduce the size of the permitted causeways and install a temporary work bridge to accomplish this work. The temporary impacts of the causeways have been reduced from 0.1 1 acres to 0.07 acres and they will not impact more that 50% of the Stream width (flow). This plan has been approved by NCDOT's Hydraulic Unit if you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me al (828) 586- 2141.
