Certification for the proposed Replacement of Bridge No. 960004 on SR 2418
(South Windy Gap Road) over Little Hunting Creek, Wilkes County,
North Carolina, Division 11, TIP No. BR-0108. Debit $570 from WBS 49216.1.1
Dear Ms. Beckwith:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) proposes to replace bridge
number 960004 on SR 2418 over Little Hunting Creek in Wilkes County on the existing
alignment with a 1@70' span 24"cored slab bridge. The drainage design consists of grated inlet
at the low side of bridge to the proposed lateral ditch. Existing drainage patterns have been
maintained. No direct discharge occurs in Little Hunting Creek. An offsite detour will be
utilized for this project. The replacement with a taller and wider bridge results in the need to
have wider roadway approaches. This widening will require the relocation of 144 lf of a
parallel UT to Little Hunting Creek. This action will result in 144 lf of permanent
impacts to streams from roadway fill, 13 lf of bank stabilization, and 0.03 ac of
temporary impacts to streams from causeways for bridge construction/demolition.
Mitigation for the permanent stream impacts will be provided by the North
Carolina Division of Mitigation Services (NCDMS).
Please see enclosed copies of the Pre-Construction Notification (PCN), NCDMS Acceptance
Letter, Stormwater Management Plan, and Permit Drawings. A Categorical Exclusion (CE)
was completed in January 2020 and distributed shortly thereafter. Additional copies are
available upon request.
This project calls for a letting date of July 20, 2021 and a review date of June 1, 2021.
