March 2, 2011 Mr. Pete Mentor Burke County Planning & Development P.O. Box 219 Morganton, N.C. 28680 Dear Pete, Per our conversation dated 3/2/11 enclosed is our application to begin construction of a seawall for lot 18 Holiday Shores. This particular lot is in danger of washing away completely. We have for several years now had to remove large trees, which have continued to fall into Lake James because of the continued erosion of the lot. We have done so at considerable expense in order to insure the safety of both boaters and children swimming in the cove. We can no longer wait to construct a seawall in order to preserve what is left of the shoreline. I have had two meetings with Duke Energy at the site and they concur with the need to stabilize the shoreline in this manner. Their representative is prepared to move forward with the project. This letter will be followed by an application to Duke Energy Lake Services and the N.C. Division of Water Quality for the requisite permits. Please forward all correspondence regarding this matter to me at my home address as I am the keeper of record for the project. You may also direct any questions or concerns regarding this project to me as well. Since y, Steve Allen 2440 Sedley Rd. Charlotte, N.C. 28211 Enclosures (2) RE-PLANTING PLAN & SCHEDULE LOT 18 HOLIDAY SHORES Our plan is to begin replanting and restoring the shoreline once the wall is completed. This should begin, weather permitting, approximately one month (4 weeks) after the work is concluded and all equipment removed from the construction site. All trees will be 3-5 inch caliper with a root ball weighing 250- 350 pounds. This will require a small "Bobcat" loader in order to deliver the trees to the site. Juniper will be used to provide ground cover in areas where the slope is greater than 7-1 and all plant materials to be used will be "native" to North Carolina. A schedule of the project is as follows: April 10, 2011 Debris clearing and site prep.
