REQUEST FOR MORE INFORMATION
Dear Mr. Simmons:
DWQ #: 09-0859v2
Stanly County
On January 5, 2011 and January 28, 2011, the Division of Water Quality (DWQ) received your revised
stormwater management plan (SMP) and additional information for the subject project. Please provide
the following information so that we may continue to review your project and prevent return of
your application as required by 15A NCAC 2H .0506:
Additional Information Requested:
1. Planting Plan for Wet Ponds: Please provide a planting plan prepared by a qualified design
professional licensed in North Carolina for the littoral shelves of both wet ponds. Section 10.3.7
(Plant and Landscape Requirements) of the DWQ BMP Manual provides detailed information. In
particular, please pay attention to the following:
1) A minimum of three (3) diverse species shall be provided for each half of the shelf;
2) A minimum of 50 plants per 200 sq. ft. of shelf area is required;
3) "Trees and woody shrubs should not be planted on the shelf or pond embankments". Herbaceous
vegetation should be planted instead.
4) One general rule of thumb that may be used is the spacing should be approximately 24" to 36"
centers.
5) See Chapter 9 for appropriate vegetation choices (note: cattails are prohibited in wet ponds).
6) Provide local nursery supplier information for proposed native plant species.
Please respond within 30 days of the date of this letter by sending two (2) collated copies of the above
information and any revisions in writing. This letter only addresses the application review and does not
authorize any impacts to wetlands, waters or protected buffers.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you have any questions or wish to discuss these matters
further please do not hesitate to call me or Joseph Gyamfi at 919-807-6246.
