The area affected is located at High Rock Lake in Rowan County. The lot is part of the subdivision know as Summer Place, lot 43, Block 13. The address is: Sailboat Drive, Salisbury, North Carolina 28146 The size of the excavation is approximately 120' long X 30' wide X 3' deep. The greatest depth (3') being at the floater of pier. The depth gradually reduces to zero depth at the 120 foot mark away from the pier. A total of approximately 200 cubic yards of dirt is expected to be removed. The sides will be sloping down and will be such that water will drain freely from the excavation when water levels drop below the level of excavation. The shoreline at normal full-pool (655 feet elevation) will not be altered. The soil will be removed via backhoe. It will be loaded into a tandem dump truck and hauled away from site. The surrounding resource impact should be non existent since the area of excavation is to be done in the dry and no contact to the draw down water level by the mechanical tools used. Fish habitat could even be improved since fish prefer to school in depressions on the lake bottom as opposed to flat surfaces. The excavation is to be done within 30 days of all required approvals and receipt of final written approval from Alcoa, provided the water level is low enough to allow work and not disturb lake water. Actual work is expected to take three days to complete.
