APR Y Apn P4, 2003. ? j ?003 ??DWQ Project No. 03-0166 Hyde County CERTIFIED MAIL: RETURN R y APR a 8 ?OLiIJ 6ECTION John Geewax 414 old Baltimore Pike ??RUj Chadds Ford, PA 19317 Subject Property: Geewax,Property, John Gaskins Drive, Ocracoke, NC Pamlico Sound [03-03-7, 29-(40.5), SA HQW (high quality) NSW (nutrient sensitive)] REQUEST FOR MORE INFORMATION Mr. Geewax: On February 14, 2003, the Division of Water Quality (DWQ) received your request to use General Water Quality Certification No. 3351 (GC3351) to impact wetlands, waters and buffers to conduct maintenance dredging and to install a pier, a 403-foot long bulkhead and 107 feet of riprap at the subject property. The DWQ will require additional information in order to process your application to impact wetlands, streams and protected buffers on the subject property. Therefore, unless we receive the additional information requested below, we will have to move toward denial of your application as required by 15A NCAC 2H .0506 and 2B.0259(8) and will place this project on hold as incomplete until we receive this additional information. Please provide the following information so that we may continue to review your project. • Bulkhead It is unclear, based on information provided within your application and DWQ previous field evaluations conducted on the property, as to why you must use a bulkhead to stabilize the shoreline. Please provide additional information as to why the bulkhead is needed to stabilize the shoreline. Also, please provide additional information as to how high the bulkhead will be and how much backfill will be required for it's installation. Please respond within three weeks of the date of this letter by sending this information to me in writing and to Mr. Tom Steffens of the DWQ Washington Regional Office. If we do not hear from you within three weeks, we will assume that you no longer want to pursue this project and we will consider the project as withdrawn. This letter only addresses the application review and does not authorize any impacts to wetlands, waters or protected buffers. Please be aware that any impacts requested within your application are not authorized (at this time) by the DWQ.
