Based on this review, there are no existing NR properties in the Area of Potential Effects. No cultural resource properties appear to be present in the project APE. Brief Explanation of why the available information provides a reliable basis for reasonably predicting that there are no unidentified historic properties in the APE: The new bridge will replace the old bridge in the existing extensive embankments with no impact outside of the current right of way. An off-site detour will be utilized during construction. SUPPORT DOCUMENTATION See attached: Map(s), Previous Survey Info, Photos, Correspondence, Photocopy of notes from county survey. Based on this review, there were no existing NR, SL, LD, DE, or SS properties in the Area of Potential Effects. Beaufort County GIS and Tax Parcel Data indicated a farm with a house and outbuildings near the APE. A site visit was conducted on September 16, 2010. A house surrounded by outbuildings is located at the north end of a large field of cotton. The house was constructed in 1929, is a basic I-house plan with a rear side gable addition. The house has been sided with vinyl, the windows and their surrounds have been replaced as have the porch columns and one of: the exterior chimneys. The other structures include the former living quarters, two mule sheds, smokehouse, privy, and tobacco barn. Most of the outbuildings are in deteriorated condition. Additionally there is a family cemetery on the property that includes approximately fifty headstones dating from 1891 to present day. This farm complex is sited approximately 1500 feet from the bridge.: Due to this distance no historic properties will be affected by the bridge replacement project.
