The project, as originally planned and permitted, was to replace approximately 900 linear feet of failing clay sanitary sewer in Zone 1 buffer. Approximately half of the pipe was to be replaced in its current location and half was to be relocated outside of the Neuse River Riparian Buffer. The presence of rock; however, has made the relocation portion of the project economically infeasible. The Orleans Place Sanitary Sewer Improvements project has been revised to replace the entire length of failing clay sanitary sewer in place with ductile iron pipe. It is our understanding through recent discussions with City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department that replacement of sanitary sewer within an existing easement in the Neuse River Riparian Buffer will not require mitigation. Measures will be taken to minimize the proposed impacts. Erosion control devices will be installed, no trees or vegetation will be cut outside of the limits of construction, tree stumps will be preserved along the top of bank, and the disturbed area will be stabilized by seeding and mulching, jute matting, or geotextile/rip rap/willow staking immediately after completion. A sanitary sewer bypass ("pump- around") will be installed using pumps, flexible hose, and generators. Conventional construction equipment (trackhoes, dump trucks, trench box) will be used for the installation. Please call with any questions regarding this permit modification. Explain the purpose of the proposed project: replacement of existing 15" clay sanitary sewer and relocation of a portion of the sanitary sewer out of the Neuse River Buffer 3e. Describe the overall project in detail, including the type of equipment to be used: An investigation behind the Quail Hollow Swim Club revealed that a portion of the existing clay sanitary sewer (installed prior to 1972 and largely located within Zone 1) is in poor condition. The proposed project replaces approximately 893 LF of 16" sanitary sewer mostly in Zone 1 using the existing easement, alignment and general depth and 199 LF of 8" sanitary sewer in a combination of new and existing easement. No trees or vegetation shall be cut or damaged outside of the City of Raleigh Easement and/or limits of construction. Tree stumps shall be preserved along the top of bank.
