Please give a brief project description below. * The proposed maintenance dredging will occur via hydraulic dredging (cutter suction) to dredge the material to -36' MLW + 2' overdredge. Mechanical dredging via clamshell may also be utilized in locations within the dredge area where timber inhibits the use of hydraulic dredging. A total of approximately 17,000 cubic yards of material will be dredged. Dredging equipment will be stored at the berth until the maintenance dredging is complete. The maintenance dredging is expected to take approximately 2 weeks to complete. The hydraulically dredged material will be pumped (booster pump) to the CDF via a pipeline sunken down to the river bottom. The dredged material will be discharged at the existing CDF, which is located directly across Cape Fear River from the dredge area and the CDF will be isolated by an earthen berm. After the dredged material is placed in the isolated area, effluent will drain back to the river in a controlled manner through a strategically placed weir. An excavator or bulldozer will be used to spread dredge material during disposal. The mechanically dredged material will be transported and stored via barge. National Gypsum Company uses the facility for unloading gypsum for wallboard production at the wallboard plant across River Road. Daily operations will be able to continue when the maintenance dredging is complete. If the berthing area is not dredged, there will be a significant negative impact to the operations at the National Gypsum Wilmington facility.
