NOTICE OF A SECOND CITIZENS INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR THE
PROPOSED REPLACEMENT OF THE TOPSAIL ISLAND BRIDGE OVER THE
INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY ON NC 501210
TIP Project No. B-4929 WBS#: 40233.1.1 Pender County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a second
Citizens Informational Workshop for the above mentioned project on Thursday, October
217 2010, between the hours of 3:00 pm. and 7:00 pm. at the Surf City Community
Center, located at 201 Community Center Drive, Surf City, 28445.
NCDOT will be showing fourteen (14) alternatives developed as a result of the
last workshop that was held on June 25, 2009. Maps denoting the proposed 14 project
design alternatives will be displayed and NCDOT representatives will be available to
discuss the project, answer questions, and receive comments. Written comments are
encouraged. Citizens may drop-in anytime during the workshop hours. Please note:
there will be no formal presentation.
A Citizens Informational Workshop is held to provide the public an opportunity to
participate in the planning process and update them on a project's status. Comments
and information received from the public will be taken into consideration as work on this
project progresses. Additional public involvement will continue throughout the
development of the project.
' NCDOT proposes to build a new bridge to replace the existing swing bridge over
the Intracoastal Waterway on NC 501210 in Surf City. This is one of two bridges that
provide access to Topsail Island. The existing bridge is a steel truss swing span bridge
that was built in the 1950's and is due for replacement.
