Dear Mr. Swain:
Dee Freeman
Secretary
On August 27, 2010, I inspected the construction work on Interstate 26-NC Highway 146 project (Long Shoals
Road) in Buncombe County. Construction work on the Long Shoals Road bridge is complete and construction
of the 1-26 bridges are almost complete. Most of the remaining work is concentrated on the new 1-26 on and
off ramps, the new part of Long Shoals Road and removal of the old French Broad River Bridge.
Please continue to ensure that all sediment and erosion control structures are maintained and that seeding and
mulching are performed as needed to protect downstream waters. Please refer to the attached inspection report
for any specific items noted during the inspection.
If you have questions, please call me at 828-296-4500.
Sincerely,

Bridge over French Broad River is complete. Both bridges on 1-26 are almost complete.
Work is now underway paving the I-26 on and off ramps. Seeding and matting have been completed on part of
the ramps.
Old Bridge over the French Broad River on Long Shoals Road is being dismantled. Care should be taken to
prevent saw cooling water from entering the French Broad River.
Please continue to maintain sediment and erosion control devices and continue with seeding and matting as
required to protect State surface waters.
