Thanks for the information, Rob Original Message----- From: Montague, Heather W Sent: Friday, September 10, 2010 11:47 AM To: Alsmeyer, Eric C SAW; Ridings, Rob Cc: Moore, David B; Rivera, Ferdinand N; Rierson, Dawn; Murray, Christopher A Subject: B-3919 (Bridge No. 448, use of non-reporting NWP 13: bank stabilization) Reference: DWQ.Project No ., 20090366 and.20090366 ver. 2) Rob and Eric Bridge replaceme,nt.work is..currently underway for Bridge No..4.48 over. Austin Creek-on.SRt2053 ; (3,ones Dairy .Road),.Wake'Ccunty;,within"the Neuse River, Basin,;. TIP B 3919.:,The original application for this bridge replacement and road, improvements, dated March;31;,,:20,09;describes impacts to surface water associated with bank stabilization and Buffer;impacts for;: road crossing and bridge construction. Please note that the permitted surface."water impacts. iinclude bank stabilisation of 10ft at the ditch outlet, at Bridge 448 and 'a .total of;75ft'.of bank stabilization in 'the foot'p'rints of the 'vertical timber abutments_to:come,out;nezt-to the stream 'at'Bridge'No'.' 140 Written-'authorization from the"USAGE wa'snot requested „. At Bridge. No: 448, please note from the attached plan sheet portion that the embankment rock wrapping around the proposed end bent on the NW quadrant appears well off the.stream:edge.! However the top of bank has migrated over 10ft in spots and is now bisecting the-radius of. .,the proposed rock embankment'(see attached pictures). Picture 893- shows.stakes'.outlining-..- radius; Picture 881- shows Chris Murray down at location of rock toe next to stream edge; and Picture 883- shows raw vertical stream bank in location of radius and proposed.. ditch outlet. Construction of this embankment will actually require the placement of approximately.25 lft of stone beyond the break in the top of bank and which will get toed in down at the stream edge. This will involve additional 'bank stabilization' of Class I rip rap not anticipated or depicted in the original permit drawings. Since the stream banks at this bridge site are raw, vertical, and high off the water. Long term stability is a concern. As work progresses towards construction of the ditch which will outlet just downstream of this embankment rock radius - additional rock between these two areas for bank stabilization may be necessary? Your offices will be notified of .further.:.. stabilization issues if/when they became apparent. This email is provided for your records and to request confirmation that this proposed use.of 25 lft of stone meets the conditions for working under a non-reporting NWP 13: bank stabilization. -Heather Montague 1 a i g ono . a ?
