This inspection was conducted to verify that the facility is operating in compliance with the conditions and limitations specified in NPDES WW Permit No. NCG550307. A summary of the findings and comments noted during the inspection are provided in the enclosed copy of the inspection report. The Compliance Evaluation inspection was conducted by Division of Water Resources staff from the Asheville Regional Office. This inspection was conducted to determine whether the system is being operated and maintained in compliance with General NPDES Permit No. NCG550000. Ms. Armeni spoke with Mr. Bova and was informed that the septic tank was last inspected and pumped in 2000. The residence is used as a vacation home. Overall, the system is currently in non-compliance with the requirements outlined in the permit because the tank has not been inspected or pumped since 2000 and the effluent pipe was not located. In order to resolve these noted deficiencies, please have the septic tank located and inspected, as well as the effluent pipe located, and provide records documenting both. The septic tank should be pumped when the solids level is 1/3 of the liquid level in either chamber. Once the effluent pipe is located, annual sampling is required if the pipe discharges. Are pumps or syphons operating properly? Are high and low water alarms operating properly? The septic tank was not located and the ports could not be found. The septic tank has not been inspected or pumped since the house was purchased in 2000. The septic tank needs to be located and the solids level needs to be checked. The tank should be pumped when the solids level is 1/3 of the liquid level in either chamber. Comment: Effluent Pipe Yes No NA NE Is right of way to the outfall properly maintained? Are the receiving water free of foam other than trace amounts and other debris? If effluent (diffuser pipes are required) are they operating properly? The effluent pipe could not be located.
