1. The length:width ratio for sediment basins is typically 2:1 with baffles separating the basin into
fourths to achieve the desired volume between baffles, to allow the longest water path for settling
and to allow access for maintenance. Refer to Sections 6.61 and 6.65 of the North Carolina
Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual and modify your design as much as
practical. [G.S. 113A-57(3)]
2. Stockpiles should not be located within 50 feet of any storm drain, basin, or stream unless no
alternative is feasible. [G.S. 143-215.1]
3. Temporary slope drains should be provided where temporary diversions discharge into sediment
basins or traps with a slope height greater than seven feet. [G.S. 113A-57(3)]
4. Utilize silt fencing and/or a water bar to prevent stormwater flow into the sewer line area when
not actively working in the area. [G.S. I I3A-57(3)]
5. Additional measures may be required - The applicant is responsible for the control of sediment
on -site. If the approved erosion and sedimentation control measures prove insufficient, the
applicant must take those additional steps necessary to stop sediment from leaving this site.
