Dear Ms. Hogan and Mr. Hogan:
The Division of Water Quality (DWQ) has performed a preliminary review of a 401 Water Quality Certification
application submitted for the above referenced property. Additional information will be required in order to
complete the review process.
Please provide the following information so that we may continue to review your project.
Additional Information Requested:
Please indicate the dimensions of the impact (i.e., how many linear feet of lake shore will be
affected and to what depth?). A sketch diagram is required as part of the application - indicating
the impact length and depth (below full pool elevation and above full pool elevation). The
Division does not allow the use of dry stack stone below full pool elevation (rip rap is allowed,
as indicated in Duke Energy's shoreline stabilization guidance). It appears that your property
has a sufficient buffer and a stable shoreline, so the Division does not understand the need for the
dry stack wall. (A sketch diagram template and example are attached for your use, so that you
can better indicate the impacts). If dry stack must be used, it should be used above the full pool
elevation.
2. You stated that you propose to install a ramp. Please describe and/or sketch what type of ramp
you propose. Is it a wood ramp for a floating dock? Will it be an asphalt path to a floating
dock?
