Mebane.

NOTICE OF A DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING
FOR THE PROPOSED RELOCATION OF NC 119
FROM I-85/I-40 INTERCHANGE TO SOUTH OF SR 1918 (MRS. WHITE LANE)
WBS No.34900.1.1 U-3109 Alamance County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a Pre-
Hearing Open House and Design Public Hearing on September 28, 2010 at the Mebane
Arts and Community Center, 622 Corrigidor Road, Mebane, 27302.
NCDOT representatives will be available at the Pre-Hearing Open House between
the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to answer questions and receive comments relative to
the proposed project. The opportunity to submit written comments or questions will also be
provided. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the above mentioned hours.
A formal presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. The presentation will consist of an
explanation of the proposed location, design, right of way acquisition and relocation
requirements and procedures and the state-federal relationship. The hearing will be open
to those present for statements, questions and comments. The presentation and comments
will be recorded and a transcript will be prepared.
The purpose of the proposed project is to improve the traffic carrying capacity on
NC 119, improve access to local communities within Mebane, and reduce traffic
congestion in downtown Mebane. The project calls for the relocation of NC 119 from the
I-85/I-40 interchange to existing NC 119 near SR 1918 (Mrs. White Lane) north of Mebane
on new location. Highlights of some of the improvements are listed below:
• Alignment of SR 1962 (Third Street Extension) and NC 119 (Fifth Street)
creating a new intersection near SR 1980 (Holmes Road)
• Realignment and extension of SR 1962 (Third Street Extension) with the
proposed relocated NC 119 near the U.S. Post Office
• Connection of SR 1997 (Corrigidor Road) to SR 1973 (Tate Avenue) with
improvements and realignment to SR 1997 (Corrigidor Road) ,
• Connection of SR 1970 (Roosevelt Street) to the proposed SR 1997 (Corregidor
Road) realignment
• Extension of SR 1972 (Smith Drive) to the proposed relocated NC 119
• Closure of the Norfolk Southern/North Carolina Railroad crossing at SR 1976
(Lake Latham Road), SR 1963 (Holt Road), and US 70 (Railroad Street)
• Construction of an overpass over US 70 and the Norfolk Southern/North
Carolina Railroad (NCRR) tracks and construction of a US 70 connector road
• Widening of US 70 in the vicinity of SR 1982 (St. Luke's Church Road)
A map displaying the location and design of the preferred route and a copy of the
environmental documents: Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) and Final
Section 4(F) Evaluation and the Record of Decision (ROD) are available for public review
at the NCDOT Division 7 Resident Engineer's Office located at 127 East Crescent Square
Drive, Graham, 27253 and at the City of Mebane Administrative Offices located at 106
East Washington Street, Mebane, 27302. The maps and documents may be viewed online

available for viewing at the Mebane Arts and Community Center.
Anyone wishing to speak at the formal hearings may register to do so at the open

Comments and/or questions may be submitted until October 29, 2010.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with
Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this hearing. Anyone
requiring special services should contact Ms. Hinton as early as possible so that
arrangements can be made.
