This project proposes to construct the next building for the campus along success way adjacent to the existing building D. This building was designed with a large retaining wall on the back side to minimize the impact to the buffer. However, a chilled water line needs to serve this building and future buildings on the eastern part of campus. The Neuse riparian buffer will be impacted by the construction of the chilled water lines proposed along the back side of the building. Please see the attached plans and sketches. This impact will only occur in Zone 2 and will total approximately 1,457 square feet. The chilled water lines are considered a non-electric other than perpendicular utility crossing to the buffer which is an allowed use. The design team looked for other places to run these lines and there is no feasible way around the buffer since the proposed building fronts on an existing street. The entire project drains to an existing pond just east of the site that has a level spreader. Those systems were designed and permitted by another engineering firm in a pervious phase of development on the campus. Those systems were sized for our impervious and therefore no stormwater permits were required by the City of Raleigh for this project. Please feel free to contact me or Ryan Hambleton, PE, also with Stewart, with any questions or concerns.
