The project is currently under construction and the majority of the greenway has been graded and the stone base has been installed. The contractor is waiting to install bridges and associated abutments. Currently the contractor will have to wait to install the boardwalks until after bridge installation. The boardwalks are not designed for construction traffic and the contractor will have to build them at the end of the project while working the construction equipment out after bridge installation is complete. KCI is requesting that a modification be granted at three boardwalk locations to provide the contractor additional space and provide access for construction equipment around the boardwalks during construction. This will allow the contractor to work on the bridges and boardwalks simultaneously during construction and allow for a smoother transition between the pavement and boardwalk joints. The buffer impacts will only be temporary and the contractor will re-establish the natural cover of the temporarily impacted areas after construction is complete. The boardwalks are ten (10) feet wide and the current authorization allows approximately sixteen (16) feet for construction or approximately three (3) feet on either side of the boardwalk. KCI is requesting the modification to allow twelve (12) feet from the edge of the boardwalk on one side of the greenway for construction. These additional impacts are located completely within the existing utility easement in all cases. Please refer to the attached photographs and updated plans for stations and locations.
