I have spoken with Jerry, Donny, and Phil this morning regarding the two losses. In addition to the recommendations below, ensure maintenance needs and repairs are accurately and thoroughly documented on the NPDES records including completion date of repairs. Groundcover needs should also be documented on the NPDES records. Permit Site #4 Recommendations: -EC measures should be cleaned out/repaired to good working order and material should be retrieved from the wetland area per guidance from Jerry/Della. It is my understanding that this is underway. -Efforts should be made to pursue groundcover to every extent feasible and within the required NCG01 timeframes. -Efforts should be made to incorporate PAM per plans and wherever feasible to reduce turbidity. Borrow Site #3 Recommendations: It is my understanding that all of the below recommendations are currently underway. -Recommend clean out and repair of EC measures to good working order and material is retrieved per guidance from Jerry/Della. -Efforts should be made to reconstruct the TSD at this location with substantial enough berm to prevent overtopping/failure in the future. -Ensure TRSC-As are re-installed per plans and per spec. Emphasis should be made on ensuring the TRSC-As are constructed with a defined weir section to prevent failure of the TSD/berm. -Erodible area throughout the perimeter of the borrow site should be stabilized within the required NCG01 timeframes including the TSDs/TDs. If you have any questions please feel free to call. 1 Thank You, Aaron Harper, PE Field Operations Engineer Div 7&8 NCDOT Roadside Environmental Unit 919 776 2279 office 919 777 3038 cell aaharper@ncdot.gov P.O. At Permitted Site 4, silt made it through the stone outlet and into the JS. There were no obvious device failures or blowouts. Estimated Silt Loss, 0.5 CY. At Borrow Pit 3, a stone outlet was blown out, resulting in silt and stone making it to the JS. Estimated Silt Loss, 6 CY. Devices will be repaired, and we will await your recommendations before doing anything in the permitted sites. 2 Best Regards, Joshua T Pratt, PE Assistant Resident Engineer 336.215.8153 Office 828.779.9752 Mobile jtpratt@ncdot.gov 1226 North Scales Street Reidsville NC 27320 PO Box 1318 Reidsville NC 27323 Email correspondence to and from this sender is subject to the N.C.
