WETLANDS AREA 8:
CROSSING OF WETLAND AREA 8 WAS REQUIRED TO INTERCONNECT US70 WITH US70A,
AND PROVIDE AN IMPROVED SOUTHERN EXTENSION OF ABSHER ROAD TO US70.
THE ROAD ALIGNMENT WAS LIMITED TO THE NORTH OF THE PROPOSED ROUNDABOUT
BY EXISTING STRUCTURES AND PROPERTIES, EXISTING ALIGNMENT OF ABSHER ROAD.
DESIGN LIMITATIONS OF THE ROUNDABOUT, GENERAL AASHTO ROAD DESIGN
CONSTRAINTS AND MINIMIZING THE WETLANDS IMPACT WERE PARAMETERS THAT
WERE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN DETERMINING THE ROAD HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL
ALIGNMENTS AND PROFILES.
TO MINIMIZE THE WETLANDS IMPACT, THE ROAD ALIGNMENT WAS DESIGNED TO CROSS
AS FAR WEST OF THE WETLANDS AREA AS POSSIBLE. THE ROAD FOOTPRINT WAS
DETERMINED BASED ON A TRAFFIC IMPACT STUDY AND EXISTING AND PROJECTED
TRAFFIC VOLUMES ENTERING AND COMING OFF OF US70.
THE 5' CONCRETE SIDEWALK WAS LOCATED ALONG THE WEST SIDE OF THE ROAD TO
FURTHER MITIGATE THE WETLANDS IMPACT.
