NOTICE OF A DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE
PROPOSED TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS TO U.S. 301 BYPASS FROM
MAY DRIVE (STATE ROAD 1836) TO N.C. 43/48 (BENVENUE ROAD).
TIP Project No. U-3330
Nash County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation will hold an informal Design
Public Hearing on Thursday, June 17, 2010, between the hours of 2:00pm and 6:30pm
at the Rocky Mount Shrine Club, located at 320 Airport Road in Rocky Mount.
NCDOT representatives will be available in an informal setting to answer
questions and receive comments about the proposed project. The opportunity to submit
written comments or questions also will be provided. Interested citizens may attend at
any time during the hearing. No formal presentations will be made.
NCDOT proposes to add an additional lane in each direction of the U.S. 301
Bypass from May Drive (State Road 1836) to N.C. 43/48 (Benvenue Road). The purpose
of the project is to increase vehicular capacity and to enhance traffic flow throughout the
corridor.
It is also proposed to replace the bridge over Stoney Creek with a longer
structure to accommodate increasing floodwaters and to replace the U.S. 64 Business
bridge over U.S. 301 to provide adequate clearance to accommodate the widening of the
U.S. 301 Bypass. Additional right-of-way acquisition and the relocation of homes and
businesses may be required for this project.
A map displaying the location and design of the project and a copy of the
Environmental Assessment are available for public review at the NCDOT District
Engineer's Office at 3013 U.S. 64A in Nashville, as well as the Rocky Mount Planning
and Development Department, located on the second floor of City Hall at 331 South
Franklin St.
Anyone desiring additional information may contact Jamille Robbins of the
NCDOT Human Environment Unit at 1598 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-
1598, by phone at (919) 431-6500 or via e-mail at iarobbins(dncdot.gov. Additional
comments on the project may be submitted until July 17.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with
Disabilities Act for disabled persons who want to participate in this hearing. Anyone
requiring special services should contact Robbins as early as possible so that
arrangements can be made.
