Temporary impacts to wetlands are needed to install the line. 4i. Describe the overall project in detail, including indirect impacts and the type of equipment to be used:* The project consists of constructing approximately 13,600 linear feet (LF) of 12-inch sewer force main, including four 320 LF to 2,100 LF directional bores, and replacement of the existing Pump Station #10 in New Bern, North Carolina. This project will remove a portion of the flowfrom the Township 7 community that is currently being pumped through an existing 8-inch force main. The project will also replace the existing Pump Station #10 with a flood -proof wet well and valve vault, and elevate controls above the 100-year base flood elevation. Also note that the City plans to install - 3,250 LF of water line under the Trent River as well. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts in designing the project: The sewer line will be placed within road rights -of -way to avoid most of the wetlands in the corridor. Additionally, the line will be directionally bored under three streams to avoid impacts to these resources. One small temporary wetland impact is needed where a bore ends. The line could not be moved into uplands because this would push it out of the eAsting easement. tb. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts through construction techniques: The sewer line will be directionally bored under three streams. 2. What data sources did you use to determine whether your site would impact Endangered Species or Designated Critical Habitat? The NC Natural Heritage Program database was reviewed to determine if any rare species are known to occur within or near the project area. No federally protected species are known to occur within the site. The Atlantic sturgeon, shortnose sturgeon, West Indian manatee, American alligator, and sensitive joint -vetch are known to occur within one mile of the corridor. The animals are all aquatic and likely occur within the Neuse and Trent Rivers. The project will bore under all streams and no impacts to any rare aquatic species is anticipated. The sensitive joint -vetch is found in intertidal zone of coastal areas. Suitable habitat for this species does not exist within the site. A majority of the corridor is an existing maintained road ROW. No impact to federally protected species from the project is anticipated. Consultation Documentation Upload 6. What data sources did you use to determine whether your site would impact an Essential Fish Habitat?* NOAA's EFH Mapper tool determined that waters in or near the project support EFH for bluefish, Atlantic butterfish, and summer flounder. Streams within the site will be directionally bored and no impacts to EFH are anticipated. 7. Historic or Prehistoric Cultural Resources (Corps Requirement) 7a. Will this project occur in or near an area that the state, federal or tribal governments have designated as having historic or cultural preservation status?* r Yes r No 7b.
