US Highway 25
DWQ Project 08-1754
TIP No. R-505
Henderson County
Dear Mr. Setzer:
Dee Freeman
Secretary
On May 6, 2010, I inspected the construction work on US Highway 25 between Interstate 26 and NC Highway
225 in Henderson County. Major grading and paving are underway along the entire length of the project.
Review of the sediment and erosion control program found that additional attention is needed on these
structures. Please ensure that all sediment and erosion control structures are maintained and that seeding and
mulching are performed as needed to protect downstream waters. Please refer to the attached copy of the
inspection report for additional comments regarding the inspection.
If you have questions, please call me at 828-296-4500.
Sincerely,
Michael R. Parker

Additional comments:
Reviewed project with DOT staff and Wright Brothers. Heavy construction is underway on the south end of the
project. Some paving has taken place and approximately 25% of the project has been paved.
It appears that the contractor has gotten behind on maintaining the sediment and erosion control devices and
structures. The contractor was cleaning out structures during the inspection. Some sediment and erosion control
structures especially on the northern end of the project needed a lot of work and some other sediment basin
appeared to be full.
The Melton Pond, between Stations 835 and 836, was not cleaned out from storms in the fall. The pond should
be cleaned out as soon as possible.
Seeding and/or matting should be performed as areas are graded.
It is imperative that all erosion control devices be maintained. Please continue with seeding and matting as
required to protect State surface waters.
