The NCDOT proposes to replace a poorly functioning terra cotta culvert on
Sockwell Road in Guilford County.The project will involve replacing an
existing 1 @ 6'x 4.3 tile arch culvert with a 1 @ 87"x 67"corrugated
aluminum alloy pipe arch w/headwall on SR 2735(Sockwell Rd). Stream
banks will be armored with rip rap for stabilization.The existing pipe is
perched at outlet.The new culvert will be buried below stream bed with inlet
and outlet sills.The existing fill slopes are very steep and unstable. New
slopes will be flatter 2:1 grassed slopes.This project encroaches into a
DMS mitigation site and it also received an Adverse Effect per Archaeology
because of the terra cotta tiles.Those agencies have been contacted and
settlements/agreements have been reached.Terms and conditions of
those agreements will be submitted with the permit application.
