Tim Heim of the Asheville Regional Office performed a Compliance Evaluation Inspection of the facility
on October 22, 2020. Conrad Stafford (ORC) and Willie Nelson (BORC) of M-B Industries were
present at the time of the inspection.
The following items in violation of permit conditions (Failure to Operate and Maintain the Facility) were
noted at the time of the inspection:
The lift station building roof is failing and should be replaced.
The #1 Water Holding Tank is non -operational and Tanks #1 & #2 are scheduled for replacement. WhilE
it is understood that Tank #2 can provide sufficient capacity to operate the plant under normal
conditions, both tanks are required for resiliency. Complete replacement of the #1 & #2 Water Holding
Tanks.
Filter textile material on the filter press is failing and not performing optimally. Replace the filter
material.
The catwalk decking around the filter press is structurally compromised and represents a safety
hazard to operators and inspectors. Repair or replace the decking.
The sump cover in the groundwater remediation building is structurally compromised and represents a
safety hazard to operators and inspectors. Repair or replace the cover.
The following improvements have been completed since the last inspection and the operators report
they are performing well:
New sludge drying heaters for the filter press.
New clarifier.
Replacement of the Groundwater Remediation Building roof.
