Please give a brief project description below. * The purpose of this Project is to restore the natural stream and improve the riparian corridor functions of a firstlorder stream located in Greenwood Park in the Town of Biltmore Forest. Urbanization of the watershed has caused erosion of the banks, which was mitigated by installation of wire gabion baskets in 1991. However, the baskets have reached the end of their service life and erosion is occurring. The failing baskets also present a safety hazard to the public, as the project is located in a public park where access to the stream is readily available. The Project will restore approximately 350 linear feet of a firstlorder unnamed tributary (UT) to the Fourmile Branch and approximately 0.6 acres of the riparian corridor is proposed. Urbanization of the approximate 0.3 square mile watershed and impacts to the riparian corridor have degraded the stream. The proposed restoration will include removal of approximately 570 linear feet of existing wire gabion baskets and reuse of the rock and soil inside the baskets to reshape the banks. Native trees and shrubs will be planted to repair the riparian buffer, further stabilize the banks, and provide other ecosystem services such as shading. In critical locations boulder toes, soil lifts, or other bioengineered systems will be installed for additional armoring. In approximately 3 locations, grade control measures will be installed to provide for future watershed conditions and to establish pools. This will establish a more natural stream bed, create the opportunity to flush the fine sediments that have accumulated due to soil erosion through the system, and prevent stream incision which is commonly observed in many urban streams in North Carolina. The project will be constructed using equipment that would be typical to stream restorations such as tracked backhoes and dump trucks. Some grading and filling will occur to create a more naturalized channel. Stream flow may also be diverted (within the channel) during construction to mitigate sedimentation impacts downstream if only banks will be impacted that location, for example. Please give a couple of dates you are available for a meeting. 11 /9/2020 11 /10/2020 11 /11 /2020 11 /12/2020 Please attach the documentation you would like to have the meeting about. Clear the entrance and exit area of all vegetation, roots, and other objectionable material and properly grade it.2. Place the gravel to the specific grade and dimensions shown on the plans, and smooth it.3. Provide drainage to carry water to a sediment trap or other suitable outlet.4. Use geotextile fabrics because they improve stability of the foundation in locations subject to seepage or high water table.TEMPORARY GRAVEL CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCENOT TO SCALE(Based on NC Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual, Standard Practice 6.06)SEDIMENT FENCE (TEMPORARY SILT FENCE)NOT TO SCALEINSTALLATION:1. The base of both end posts should be at least one foot higher than the middle of the fence. Check with level if necessary.2. Install posts 4 feet apart in critical areas and 6 feet apart on standard applications.3. Install posts 2 feet deep on the downstream side of the silt fence, and as close as possible to the fabric, enabling posts tosupport the fabric from upstream water pressure.4. Install posts with nipples facing away from the silt fabric.5. Attach the fabric to each post with three ties, all spaced within the top 8 inches of the fabric. Attach each tie diagonally 45degrees through the fabric, with each puncture at least 1 inch vertically apart. Also, each tie should be positioned to hangon a post nipple when tightened to prevent sagging.6. Wrap approximately 6 inches of fabric around the end posts and secure with 3 ties.7. No more than 24 inches of a 36 inch fabric is allowed above ground level.8. The installation should be checked and corrected for any deviations before compaction.9. Compaction is vitally important for effective results. Compact the soil immediately next to the silt fence fabric with the fronttire of the tractor, skid steer, or roller exerting at least 60 pounds per square inch. Compact the upstream side first, andthen each side twice for a total of 4 trips.(Based on NC Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual, Standard Practice 6.62)REINFORCED SILT FENCE OUTLETNOT TO SCALEBURY WIRE FENCE AND FILTER FABRIC(SEE SEDIMENT FENCE DETAIL)BURY HARDWARE CLOTH 8"BURY WIRE FENCE AND FILTER FABRIC (SEESEDIMENT FENCE DETAIL)BURY HARDWARE CLOTH 8"(MIN)STEEL POSTS @ 24" o.c. Ensure that the subgrade for the filter and riprap follows the required lines and grades shown in the plan. Compact any fill required in the subgrade to the density of thesurrounding undisturbed material. Low areas in the subgrade on undisturbed soil may also be filled by increasing the riprap thickness.2. The riprap and gravel filter must conform to the specified grading limits shown on the plans.3. Filter cloth, when used, must meet design requirements and be properly protected from punching or tearing during installation. Repair any damage by removing the riprap andplacing another piece of filter cloth over the damaged section. All connecting joints should overlap so the top layer is above the downstream layer a minimum of 1 foot. If thedamage is extensive, replace the entire filter cloth.4. Riprap may be placed by equipment, but take care to avoid damaging the filter fabric.5. The minimum thickness of the riprap should be 1.5 times the maximum stone diameter, or twice the average stone diameter, whichever is greater.6. Riprap may be field stone or rough quarry stone. It should be hard, angular, highly weather-resistant and well graded.7. Construct the apron on zero grade with no overfill at the end. Make the top of the riprap at the downstream end level with the receiving area or slightly below it.8. Ensure that the apron is properly aligned with the receiving stream and preferably straight throughout its length. If a curve is needed to fit site conditions, place it in the uppersection of the apron.9. Immediately after construction, stabilize all disturbed areas with vegetation.Notes:1. La is the length of the riprap apron.2. Do is:xFor circular pipes, the nominal inside pipe diameter.xFor multiple pipes, 1.25 times the largest pipe diameter.xFor noncircular culverts, the square root of the cross-sectional area of the culvert.3. Riprap depth (d) = 1.5 times the maximum stone diameter or 2 times the average stonediameter, whichever is greater, but not less than 6 inches.4. In a well defined channel, extend the apron up the channel banks to an elevation of 6inches above the maximum tailwater depth , or to the top of the bank, whichever is less.5. A stone filter blanket or filter fabric should be installed between the riprap and soilfoundation.PLANSECTION24" MINSEWN-IN CONNECTION SLEEVE FOR PUMPDISCHARGE HOSESILT FENCECOVER #57 STONE PADWITH GEOTEXTILE FABRIC#57 STONE TO LEVEL BAG FROMNATURAL GROUND LINEPOLYETHYLENE SHEETING(6 MIL MIN)DEWATERING FILTER BAGVARIES WITH GROUND SLOPEOPTIONAL LIFTING STRAPSSILT FENCE#57 STONE TO LEVEL BAG FROMNATURAL GROUND LINESILT FENCEEXISTING GRADEPOLYETHYLENE SHEETINGDEWATERINGFILTER BAG6" MIN24" MIN10' MIN24" MIN6" MINVARIES WITHGROUND SLOPEVARIABLE(10' MIN.)GEOTEXTILE FABRICVARIES WITH GROUND SLOPEREINFORCED SILTFENCE OUTLETREINFORCED SILTFENCE OUTLETDEWATERING FILTER BAGNOT TO SCALE(Based on NC Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual, Standard Practice 6.06)INSTALLATION:TEMPORARY DIVERSIONSNOT TO SCALEEARTHEN DIVERSION DIKE (TEMPORARY)GRAVEL DIVERSION DIKE FOR VEHICLE CROSSING (TEMPORARY)25.255.265.275.260% DRAWINGSFOR COORDINATION ONLYNOT PERMITTED FOR CONSTRUCTION RevisionsU:\19\19-0430\190438-Biltmore Forest - DWI Stream Restoration\CAD\Drawing Sets\Construction\09190430.00 Cross-Section.dwg- Friday, September 18, 2020 5:23:18 PM - BALL, BLAKESheet No.DesignerDrawn ByDateJob No.WithersRavenel115 MacKenan Drive | Cary, NC 27511 | t: 919.469.3340 | license #: C-0832 | www.withersravenel.comEngineers | Planners | SurveyorsGreenwood ParkStream Restoration09190340.00JUNE 2020BGBKB/TSJPRELIMINARYNOT APPROVED FORCONSTRUCTIONNORTH CAROLINA TODD W.
