The total anticipated discharge volume for this project is approximately 1,790 gallons once per week at a flow rate of 20 gpm. It is important to note that although the 1.5-inch force main does not meet 2T minimum size requirements, the size was selected based on achieving the minimum self -cleansing velocity while ensuring efficient pump operation. Downstream Facility Name (Sewer): Beau Rivage Plantation WWTP Downstream Permit Number: NC0065480 Page I of 6 FTSE 10-18 ATTACHMENT A Project Description The project includes the installation of an iron and manganese filtration system at River & Sanders Well #8, owned and operated by Aqua North Carolina, Inc. The system will include disposal of the settled backwash wastewater from the bottom of the backwash settling tanks to a nearby Aqua North Carolina owned manhole. The iron and manganese filtration system will include four (4) pressure filters and two (2) backwash water settling tanks. The pressure filters will be mounted on two (2) skids inside the proposed building and the backwash settling tanks will be installed outside on a concrete pad. Backwashing & Backwash Wastewater Disposal Backwash from the filters is discharged to the backwash holding/settling tanks where it is temporarily stored for a minimum of 3 hours to allow solids to settle. Backwash water in the holding tanks is reintroduced to the inlet of the treatment system via a backwash recycle pump where it is blended with the raw well water. After approximately five (5) backwashing events, the settled backwash wastewater containing iron and manganese solids will be disposed of by pumping the wastewater from the bottom of the cone to a manhole approximately 1,750 LF away via a 1.5-inch PVC force main. The manhole is located just north of the intersection of River Road and Turtle Cay Drive. The 1.5-inch force main does not meet 2T minimum size and horizontal separation requirements referenced in Sections VIII and IX of the Fast Track Application. Although the 1.5-inch pipe is being referred to as a force main it is important to note that this is not a typical pump station/force main design and does not have a wet well. The size was selected based on achieving the minimum self - cleansing velocity while ensuring efficient pump operation. Due to NCDOT pavement offset restrictions, the 1.5-inch force main is located 5 feet off the existing water line and therefore does not meet horizontal separation requirements. However, it is important to note the backwash wastewater being conveyed is treated groundwater containing a low percentage of settled solids (iron and manganese) and NOT "sewage" as defined in 15A NCAC 02T. The well building will be equipped with a generator quick connection. However, if there was a power outage then the whole well operation would stop and no backwash wastewater would be generated.
