R t @ WAR I The Greenville Utilities Commission's (GUC) construction of a new raw water intake in the Tar River is underway under Section 404 permit (2009- 00541) and Section 401 Water Quality Certification (09-0266). Due to the Tar River in-river construction moratorium, those permits currently require completion of the in-river work by March 17. We are pleased to report completion of the in-river construction activity except for the placement of approximately 10 cubic yards of Class B rip rap immediately upstream of the prior raw water intakes, the removal of the coffer dam around the new intakes and adjustment of two of the flow training vanes to final grade. We have been able to safely remove approximately twenty percent (20%) of the coffer dam. Removal of the remainder of the coffer dam will take seven to ten working days. The placement of the approximately 10 cubic yards of fill and adjustment of the two flow training vanes can be completed in one additional day. 801 Mumford Road Greenville, NC 27835 WIVW.guc.com Your Local Advantage p?,? qua Gq c?6? Mr. Josh Pelletier Mr. Ian McMillan March 16, 2010 Page 2 The Tar River is within 1 foot of the maximum stage at which work can be performed and is rising. Due to the uncertainty of future river conditions, we cannot place a specific date on when the work can be completed. We are requesting immediate agency concurrence with permit extensions that will provide us with an additional 30 calendar days of allowed construction activity during the moratorium.
