September 16, 2020 Mr. Erick Saunders, Environmental Engineer Division of Water Resources NCDEQ 1617 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1617Bi11 Randolph RE: Applicant No. WQ0013398 Additional Information Request Sandpiper Bay WWTP Reclaimed Water System Brunswick County MBD Project No. 320002/300 Dear Mr. Saunders: I appreciated the opportunity to speak with you yesterday regarding the resubmission of information for the 904 Georgetown Treatment Plant. As we discussed yesterday, only the Bay Course is used for application of reclaimed wastewater at this time. According to the operations staff of Sandpiper Bay Golf Club, there is a separate irrigation pump station for the Bay course and a separate pump station for the other two 9-hole courses onsite (Sand and Piper). The initial soils evaluation included all of the 9-hole golf courses and was based on upon the potential expansion of the WWTP. There are no plans at this time to expand the WWTP beyond 150,000 GPD and the Bay Course is adequate for the application of wastewater from this facility. Below is our response to your letter dated August 17, 2020. A. Facility Description 1. The facility description in the permit should be revised as follows: Continued operation of a 150,000 GPD wastewater treatment and non -conjunctive reclaimed wastewater facility consisting of: duplex influent pump station with two (2) 260 GPM submersible pumps, manual bar screen, a 37,700 gallon aerated flow equalization basin with two (2) 156 GPM pumps, dual train aeration basins with each train consisting of two (2) 40,000 gallon biological reactors with fine bubble aeration (for a total of four basins), a clarification system consisting of two (2) trains with each train providing a surface area of 264 SF, high rate gravity tertiary filters with a total surface area of 101 SF, a 7,200 gallon chlorine contact basin with three (3) tablet chlorinators, a 17,800 gallon sludge holding tank, and all appurtenances including: a turbidity sensor, standby emergency power generation with automatic transfer switch on necessary pumps, blowers, valves, etc. In addition, the facility will include the continued operation of a spray irrigation system consisting of a 2.13 MG irrigation storage pond, a 2.76 MG lined 5-day upset pond, an irrigation pump station with dual 1,000 GPM pumps used for irrigation on the Bay Course only. MBD Consulting Engineers, P.A. 1300 Second Avenue, Suite 211 Conway, SC 29526 843.488.0124 Mr. Erick Saunders September 16, 2020 Page 2 2. The 904 Georgetown WWTP only discharges to the Bay Course. The irrigation systems are completely separate, with no interconnectivity. The irrigation pump station is located at the WWTP site and can pull flow from the irrigation pond associated with the WWTP and the small freshwater pond located adjacent to the pump station. The irrigation pump station is included in the project description listed above. There is no interconnectivity with the irrigation systems between the Sand Course and the Piper Course. According to the operations staff at the Sandpiper Bay Golf Club. B. Reporting 1. As mentioned previously, the reclaimed wastewater is only applied to the Bay Course. There is no interconnectivity between the irrigation systems of the Bay Course with the Piper or Sand Courses according to the operations staff at the Sandpiper Golf Club. C. Site Map In accordance with our discussion, reclaimed wastewater is only applied to the Bay Course; therefore, no additional information will be provided. We have attached a layout of the 904 Georgetown WWTP and information collected on the 904 Georgetown collection system.
