Hello,
Chris Smith and I visited the Sandy Creek pump station this morning (9/16/2020 9:30-10:30).
Clarissa Lipscomb (Fill-in ORC for WWTP & pump stations), Seth Davidson (BUORC), and Clark Thomas (City Engineer)
were present.
DWR staff were informed of the following:
Approval to apply for a ~$2.5 million loan/grant was given by the council. They will find out in February 2021 if
they are awarded the money. This money will be used for some investigative work and mostly repairs on the CS
to help with the large I&I issue.
The City currently has 18 flow trackers throughout the system to help better identify problem areas, mainly in
the Red Bud and Sandy Creek watersheds. This information will be combined with anticipated investigative
work this Fall to get a head start on identifying areas where the loan money will be utilized to repair and replace
lines.
City staff stated that they are looking into an EQ basin for this station, but funding is currently not acquired and
they would like to address the root issues of the I&I.
The recent ~500,000 gallon SSO from Sandy Creek pump station was due to high flow through the CS and
overwhelming the pump station due to a ~4 inch rain event (not creek inundation).
Ms. Lipscomb and Mr. Thomas will be sending follow-up emails with a few questions that they had regarding
flow capacity. I will forward these to you all for further input once they are received.
The attached photos are of the wet well/bar screen area and the main location that spills enter the creek below.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you,
Zach Thomas
